Shuttle Bus

HELPING FAMILIES NAVIGATE

Did you know, since opening our doors, Ronald McDonald House Houston has helped our families navigate to their care providers? The Texas Medical Center welcomes patients from near and far. For many of the families who stay at RMH Houston, trying to navigate through this big city can be terribly nerve-racking and confusing.

Our Shuttle Bus Program is utilized mainly as transportation for the families to travel safely to and from the hospitals, but it has evolved into so much more throughout the years. We started off with a traditional van and now have a shuttle bus that can seat up to 26-28 passengers. The bus runs on a set schedule, so that families can be dropped off in the Texas Medical Center and picked up and brought back “home.”

“Many times, during the long waiting periods for treatments with my son, me and my husband felt completely lost. But we were so grateful to have such a warm welcome at the Holcombe House, and the Shuttle Bus felt like our magic portal home.” – Mother of a child from Argentina, receiving care in the Texas Medical Center

Parents worldwide have a common bond: supporting their child regardless of the toll it takes on them. Not having to worry about the high costs of gas, car maintenance and hospital parking fees can be the biggest stress reliever for the families at RMH Houston. And for those difficult days spent at the hospital, they can always count on a safe ride home. Our staff, like Cordell Lindsey (pictured), help the shuttle not only be a ride, but a place to tell stories or a joke, and offer a smile for comfort on the tough days. His service to our families was recognized this year, as he received our Employee of the Year award for 2022!

Every day we strive to be that shining star in the darkness, a glimmering beacon of light. Our Shuttle Bus Program and the awesome RMH Houston transportation team have helped to make this a reality.

Because of our generous supporters, we are able to offer this service at no cost to our families.
