Volunteers provide compassionate support for our children and their families. Volunteers are an integral part of the Ronald McDonald House Houston team. Our volunteer team has continued to help from the safety of their homes and at a distance: grocery store drive through pick-up; beautifying our outdoor spaces, packaging to-go family activity kids, sewing masks and more!
We are looking forward returning once again to a robust volunteer program once we move through the necessary phases to keep our families safe. Usually, volunteers serve in our 4 locations throughout the Texas Medical Center, providing love and support to thousands of families each year. We can’t wait to see our volunteers back on the job greeting families at check-in, organizing meals in the Family Rooms, hosting family activities and offering a warm smile after a long day.
How Volunteers Impact The Families We Serve
“There is no place like home, and we truly love the welcoming “blue vest” volunteers for making us all feel at home. Our hearts are full of love.” – Note in the guestbook from a family who stayed at RMH Houston inside Texas Children’s Hospital
“I want to say thank you to the RMHH staff and the volunteers for doing so much for us. I worry so much about my mom not having enough sleep or not having any money to buy food. Since I’ve been here going on 5 months, it has been financially difficult for my family, but we know that me and my mom can come in here (kitchen) and have a free meal and fresh coffee. I love that I get to spend time with my mom in the kitchen and not have to be inside my room all the time. I love that you guys play Uno with us and that you all make my mom smile, but most of all I love that my mom gets to use the overnight room to get some solid rest, thank you for being so nice to us!” – From a 17-year-old patient at RMH Houston inside MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital
