Individual Volunteer Program
Ronald McDonald House Houston Individual volunteers help carry out our day-to-day operations at each of our four facilities. Volunteer duties may include helping guests check in and check out of the overnight rooms, answering phones, greeting and orienting visitors and families, visiting with patients in some of our locations, making coffee, light cleaning, organizing, and/or helping with administrative duties. As many of our volunteers have witnessed as they serve, even something small like coffee or snacks can have a BIG impact on someone’s day in the midst of crisis.
Whether you choose to serve families in our stand-alone House, or one of our three in-hospital locations in the Texas Medical Center, parking is free, scheduling is flexible, and volunteer experience fulfilling! Volunteer placements are available in three-hour blocks, 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm.
Individual Volunteer Requirements:
- You must be 18 years of age or older
- You must be available to serve two 3-hour shifts per month for 6 months OR one 3-hour shift per week for 3 months
- You must pass a background check
- You must submit the $15 application fee (or $10 for current students) upon successful completion of enrollment process and acceptance of volunteer placement
High School Volunteer Program – Summer Fun Club 2020
Children staying at Holcombe House need to have some fun this summer! Just like everyone else, our child patients and their siblings want to have fun, meet friends, and enjoy a spending time close to their families.
Teen Volunteers ages 16 and up will design and facilitate activities during Fun Club for child patients and their siblings. The program is open for children ages 2 years old (potty-trained) and up with lunch included. Most children participating in our summer program are under 10 years old. The care, fun, and enthusiasm shown by teen facilitators is a valuable gift to our families with a child receiving medical care in the Texas Medical Center.
Minimum time commitment: 4 week long sessions…To view the summer schedule click here
Applicant must be 16 years old by June 2020.
