Join Us In Keeping Families Close
Ronald McDonald House Houston individual volunteers help carry out the day-to-day operations at each of our four facilities. Parking is free, scheduling is flexible and the volunteer experience is fulfilling! Volunteer shifts are available in three-hour blocks, 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm.
Help Us Create A Home Away From Home For Families
Volunteer duties may include helping guests check in and check out of the overnight rooms, answering phones, greeting and orienting visitors and families, visiting with patients in some of our locations, making coffee, light cleaning, organizing or helping with administrative duties. As many of our volunteers have witnessed, even something small like making coffee or stocking snacks can have a BIG impact on someone’s day in the midst of crisis.
Due to COVID-19, on-site volunteering at all four of our locations is currently suspended. To indicate your interest in volunteering once we re-open the volunteer program, please complete the volunteer application. When volunteer enrollment resumes, you will be contacted.
Throughout the academic year, Ronald McDonald House Houston provides internships to college students. These internships give students the opportunity to gain real world, “hands on” experience that complements their coursework.
We have established formal partnerships with the Bachelors of Social Work program at University of Houston – Downtown and the Master of Social Work program at the University of Houston – Main Campus, that allow students to not only support the Family Support Services Department but also gain skills in assessment, case management and connecting families with services in the community.
High School Volunteer Program: Summer Fun Club
Just like everyone else, during the summer, the patients and their siblings at Holcombe House want to have fun, make new friends, and enjoy spending time close to their families. Teen volunteers, ages 16 and up, design and facilitate activities for our patients and their siblings. The care, fun, and enthusiasm shown by teen facilitators is a valuable gift to our families.
Due to current safety measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are not accepting applications at this time. Please check back for further updates on in-person volunteer opportunities. In the meantime, off-site projects such as these craft ideas or donation drives for items on our wishlists are very much appreciated.

Unfortunately, with volunteering still suspended at our hospital partner locations due to COVID-19 safety precautions, we have decided not to host the program for the August 2021- May 2022 program session. We anticipate accepting applications once again in April 2022 for the next session (August 2022 – May 2023), so please check back if you are interested at that time.
